" Individual epic narratives on a landscape that cross multiple emotional, physical and psychological perspectives reflect the totality of the landscape afterward." Artist Mingyu Song
The Great Collection is proud to present the final exhibition of the year, Mingyu Song's solo exhibition, Glorious Motion. Song has been pursuing painting in order to apply collective resources that rebuild intuitive images, redefine the social value of metaphoric images, and portray intangible things through our daily observations and experiences.
Glorious Motion will introduce Song's new painting series, which includes Glorious Motion, Plant, and Wave. The title of the exhibition portrays aging as falling, but the contradictory expression of celebration implies that it is not a sad thing to grow old; instead, it testifies to the undeniable truth by conveying the accumulated time layer by layer.
Things constantly come into our lives, leaving traces on our bodies. But this doesn't only happen to our physical bodies; time can also be imprinted on our souls as memories. These vast experiences cannot simply be categorized in a social or historical system. However, Song uses himself as a meta phor, digesting the layers of time and then transferring them onto a canvas through rhythm, pattern, and energy.
The ground floor shows a bright, playful, abstract painting series entitled Glorious Motion. The developed version allows the viewer to experience a spiritual landscape. It expresses what could be 21st-century kinetic art's katharsis. Katharsis, a Greek word, means the purification of emotions th rough the dramatic act. Kinetic art is an art that depends on motion for its effects. Those two aspects are combined in Song's painting process. Mingyu Song's solo exhibition, Glorious Motion could be our landscape today. It represents our collective experience through visible and invisible senses.
Mingyu Song (b.1981) Song has been pursuing painting processes as his painting langue through classifying and systematizing the data from the experiences in a landscape and focusing on ways to visualize screens composed of signs, symbols, and decorations. From 2016 to 2018, the artist was interested in landscapes composed of fictional images based on reality and planned a tripartite exhibition (SFD: Science Fiction Drawing) that adopted the logic of the thesis, antithesis, synthesis, and expressed forms of mental labor and practice, individual rules, the landscape of desire, and decoration without narrative structure.
